If you haven't heard yet, Amy has written a book!
I was so excited to see the book in person. It is chock full of simple sophisticated quilt designs that even the earliest beginner could tackle. The first page of each pattern has a photo of the quilt laying flat, supply lists, clear cutting instructions and suggestions for different sizes.

I asked Amy a few questions so we could all get to know her a little better.
How and when did you learn to sew?
I learned to sew from my mom and 4-H. Mom is left handed, and didn't want to teach me backward. I was 10 when I started, and haven't stopped except for a few years in college.
What is your favorite thing about quilting?
I really love all of it, but my favorite is finishing the binding. My husband has watched me lay a corner out, and see the first finished corner. Watching it be finished, is magic!
What is your favorite non-quilt thing to sew?
Bags! I like to think up my own shapes/patterns and sew a new bag for each season.
What or who inspired you to start this book writing project?
As I started sewing more and more quilts, I was looking for simple and interesting patterns that could be finished easily in a week or two, instead of a month or year. I wasn't finding them, and started sketching my ideas, which eventually turned into a book proposal.
Is there any sewing project or skill that intimidates you?
I'm not an expert at applique, but I don't let it intimidate me! I keep trying it in small doses to gain the experience.
What is your biggest hurdle in completing projects?
Like any of you...TIME! There's always a project, or two, on my brain waiting for the time.
What is your biggest asset in completing projects?
I'm very systematic in my approach, this helps keep me organized, and makes it easy for me to pick up where I left off.

I wish my kids still napped! I rarely nap, and much prefer to sew with my free time.

I started seriously sewing last April. I started with a lap sized quilt and finished it and this week I just finished the top to a reversible king size quilt. Would LOVE this book!

I have been sewing since I was a Brownie! My mom used to make us matching Mother-daughter dresses when I was little. She made us lots of dresses (she had five kids to sew for) and I grew up learning from her. When I was about 10, she helped me make a patchwork skirt. My sisters and I sewed most of our own clothes in high school and I started quilting in 1980 when I was expecting my first baby.
I have been sewing for more than 15 years. In the last 5 years I have fully completed about 2 quits Although I have a couple sandwitched ones and a dozen or so completed tops. The book is wonderful and I would love to make (and finish) a lot of the designs. Thank you for the chance to win it.

I learned to sew by standing beside my mom's sewing machine and watching. I know I was using the machine to sew before I turned 10 yrs old... and since I'll be 60 this summer, I figure I've been sewing around 50 years.
I started quilting almost two years ago and have indeed finished a number of quilts... all gifts. I have two quilts "in the works" that are for ME... and many more in the planning stage!

I'm new to the sewing & quilting world, I really just started quilting last fall. So far I have only completed a couple of small, wall-hanging sized quilts. Although, I have just recently started piecing together my first attempt a queen sized quilt! We will see how it goes!
I LOVE this book! I think it's probably one of the best books that's come out in a long time. I've been sewing/quilting for over 25 years and have finished several quilts (in various sizes) and have several flimsies waiting to be quilted. i've been sewing for 2 years now and have finished 6 quilts now - including one that was the backdrop for my wedding pictures last year! my goal is 10 this year- lots of friends with babies on the way! maybe this book would help me get there. . .
I made my first quilt when I was a senior in High School - I cut out a square paper template, pinned it to each piece of fabric and used a scissors to cut out each square. I still have that quilt.
About 9 years ago I started dating my husband and we would go to his parent's every Tuesday. His mom gave me a quilting lesson and made us dinner as I worked on my quilt. I haven't stopped since :)
I've been sewing for many many years, probably at least 50 years and yes I have finished many quilts and have lots of WIP!

It's crazy to think that I've been sewing for 20 years, since I'm really not that old (only 30). I learned from my Mom. Yes I've finished a few quilts. I'm currently working on 3 quilts, a queen size, and 2 lap quilts.

I've been sewing off and on for over 30 years. My mom taught me and I would make doll clothes and small simple things. My first quilt was made with my mom- the colors matched my bedroom. Since then I've made lots of baby and lap quilts fir friends and family. I've never counted how many- I guess I should do that! This book looks really good and if I don't win I'll have to go buy it! I've seen lots of pretty quilts during this blog tour that i'd like to try.
Amy's book looks just wonderful. I can't wait to have my own. I've been sewing since I was about 8 yrs old I'd guess when my Mom used to take me to the fabric store with her. I actually used to be given the old pattern books and the drawings of the individual pieces of each pattern piece in the back of the books back then were the perfect size to cut out and make clothes for my Barbie dolls.
I have made about 4 quilts so far, all baby quilts. They were all done with the same pattern from a wall hanging I adapted to make it larger for a baby sized quilt. These were all just basic square blocks with machine embroidery done on them. Now I want to move on to 'real' quilts with pieces other than a basic square which is why Amy's book looks perfect for me.

I've been sewing for years and years. I also learned in 4-H and from my mom. I sewed clothes and dolls and purses but took up quilting last year when I got laid off......it was my survival tool!!
I took my first sewing lessons at the county extension when I was nine. I made a pretty sweet jumper. I have finished almost twenty quilts so far, with three more in varying stages of completion. If you have another baby, you just might get one too ;)
I've been quilting for 6 year and completed about 10 quilts. 4 of which have been queen sized.
i have been teaching myself to quilt for 10yrs now and my first quilt took 6 years to complete. Each step along the way i needed to learn something new. i have now completed 8 ... and there is still soooo much to learn!! i love it !
Hi. I've been sewing for about 50 years and made my first quilt about 45 years ago -- with a lot of help from my mom, who at 80 still binds all of my quilts. However, there were many years when my hobby of choice was decorative painting. It wasn't until about 1995 or so that I got back into quilts and fabrics and sewing in a big way -- and haven't looked back since.
I started sewing when I was about 4 years old with my grandma, sho would let me stich in a hoop and would say "go up and down"... Then I took lessons when I was in fourth grade and have been sewing ever since. My mom probably taught me the most. She is amazing! And yes I have finished a quilt or two... just finished one this week. And have one more waiting for binding.
And hope to fishing piecing my postage stamp quilt soon.

I have been sewing for about 2 years (although I did try here and there before that, but nothing serious), and I have finished a quilt, I think 4 so far. :)
In 15 years,I have finished 19 quilts, some hand sewn and quilted, and managed to save three for myself. The rest are given away with love.

I LEARNED to sew 20 or years ago when I was 10 or 12, but I really didn't do much sewing until my daughter was born 2 years ago. I have finished exactly ONE quilt. Yay!
Well I have sewn small items since I was about 16. My Mom is an incredible seamstress and she taught me the basics of sewing. I have only quilted one wall hanging and some doll quilts, but I only began quilting in January of this year! I have practiced making several different kinds of blocks. I really like it. I am trying to decide what pattern will be my very first quilt, so I would love to win Amy's book.
I have always had sew envy, but didn't gain my confidence until about a year ago. Following well written tutorials on the web, I have been able to learn many techniques and finish several cool projects. The bug bit me hard and now I have an outright obsession with fabric, patterns, and projects! I stitched my first quilt last year using every piece from Moda's Hunky Dory collection.
I have been sewiong since I was five years old. I got a plastic red sewingbox for Christmas. I also used to go with my mom to Sears to learn how to use her new Kenmore.
I have been sewing for about 2 years now. I'm far from perfect and probably will never have a perfect project. I just LOVE the feeling I get knowing that I created something. I have finished a few quilts and want to make one for my bed one of these days.
I have been quilting since I was just 14. I was placed in a foster home, now for some that might be awful but for me it was a Godsend. My foster mother taught me to quilt and so many more things and today when I get a quilt top done we get together at her house and spend a day quilting whatever tops she or I have finished. I can't think of a better place or way to spend a day. And I can not even begin to say how many quilts I have made but right this minute I have 14 tops stacked up ready to be done and when Spring hits and all chances of the kiddos being sick pass we will spend several weekends quilting these tops. Quilting has been my passion for many years.

I started hand sewing when I was 8 and learned to use a machine at 10. I've only been quilting @ 18 months, but I've finished 8 quilts, all lap size. I'm ready to tackle using a pattern and going for something bigger, and I think Amy's patterns would be just right for me!

I've been sewing on and off since high school, but a friend of mine introduced me to quilting and I fell in love with it! I've finished seven quilts of various sizes (including two really big ones!) and at the moment have one ready for quilting, two completed quilt tops, one being cut and one set of fabric ready waiting for it's turn to be cut. I don't think I'll ever have enough quilts!
I learned how to sew when I was 10 maybe, but didn't really do much machine sewing until I was in grad school. Since then I've found quilting to be much more accessible, and have managed to finish 4 or so quilts! I'm definitely hooked :)

I started sewing in Jr High some 40 0dd years ago,made my own clothes in high school, my first quilt at 20.. Hated hand stitching it and from then on Mom did all the quilting, I didn't quilt again until I moved home to take care of her while she was in Chemo therapy 4 years ago, we made our first and only quilt together, I made the top and she hand quilted it, mom made 4 to 8 quilts each year for charity. When she passed I took over her machines and they longed to once again make quilts for charity, I joined a group and the first year I made 7 quilts, the second year 14 quilts plus other sewn items. So far this year I have 8 quilts designed and cut out ready to sew for charity. I have three family quilts in the works as well as two for me and the second quilt that my mom and I started but it never got finished.
I've been sewing forever....well not really but I remember my first sewing machine when I was 8 (it was green)! Granny was a seamstress and we all knew how to sew!
This year Ive finished only one quilt but last year I finished 11. I <3 quilting!!!

The first quilt I made was 12 years ago. This will giveaway my age but it was for a friend at 18. However, I stopped for a while like 10 years to complete my BA, my teaching credential, and masters. Plus I was concentrating on that whole teaching thing. Since I started quilting again I have made 5 baby quilts in less than a year.
I learned how to sew when I was younger, but I just started quilting about a year and a half ago. I have finished four quilts.

i was given my first 'toy'sewing machine at the age of eight and i used to make all my dolls clothes..by the time i was in my teens i was drafting my own dress patterns, great FUN!!
i discovered quilting in the 1990s [self taught] and my first attempt was a queen size log cabin which i handquilted...it was a labor of love LOL! It's still one of my fave quilt patterns..fun & versatile!

I started quilting about 3 years ago off an on...made my first quilt as a gift for a friend's wedding and I've been addicted since! I've made 4 quilt tops but I've only finished 2 and I'm currently working on another quilt top to help my scrap stash! HAHA!

(I only know because I take pictures only when completed.) I love quilting. My biggest project was a batik double wedding ring that I made for my son and daughter in law for their wedding last July. I grew up a mother who was a HS Home-Ec teacher. She also had a fabric shop and made cusom weding gowns. I have been sewing since I was 7. I finished my first quilt when I was 10 for a 4-H fair to get judged. It was a log cabin... a VERY uneven logcabin! I haven't quilted in 20 years. And am just getting back into it. Winnign this woul give me a fabulous excuse to buy new fabric!
There are so many quilts in this book that I would like to make. Please enter me into the drawing. My first article of clothing was at age 6/7 - very simple on sewing machine. 4-H was a wonderful way of learning more about sewing, as was help from grandmas, aunts, and my great mother.
I ahve been sewing for almost 2 years now, i started late, but thats okay better late then never!! and i have finished 2 quilts, my first one ever took me about a year to finish, from buying the fabric to the last hand quilted stich! the second one was a baby quilt, so it was a little faster. and of course I have like 4 in the works!!! haha.

9 years sewing. In my first month of sewing, I completed a quilt. That level of productivity has not stayed though. (And it was a small quilt, too.) I have finished many though I don't know what the exact number. I've set a goal to finish 5 this year.

Yes I have been busy quilting for at least 15 years with breaks for other life activities! I have finished at least 50 quilts and lots more started. I love this book and hope I am the lucky one to win it!
I have been sewing since I learned in junior high school at l4yrs-such a long time ago:-) and the first quilt I made was a nine patch baby quilt. It was sew much fun and once I began I was hooked on quilts.
I have been sewing for more than 54 years! I'm 64 and made a dress for myself when I was 10, but sewed other little things before then...8-)
My mother and I made my sister a quilt, and finished it, in 1974.

Yay! a give away! A chance to win a copy of this book is great. So here we go...I took sewing in high school more than 30 yrs ago. I never did anything with it until about a year and half ago when I started learning to quilt. It's been slow going for me because I'm just that way :0) but I've completed a quilt for my oldest daughter for her birthday and baby quilt for my middle daughter to use for a gift. Mum bought me my first sewing machine at 12 years old. Self taught as mum didn't know anyting about sewing at all. I have been quilting now for 10 years and have made at least six full size quilts. Thanks for this opportunity Regards Vicki

I've been sewing off and on since I was little, so it's probably like 35 years (ulp!) ... I've just recently started quilting, though, so the only quilt I've finished is a todder-bed size rag quilt for my little girl.
Hi! I saw this book today at my LQS and SOOOO want it! I started quilting 19 years ago to finish a quilt my mom had started. I finished it for my nephew and he turned 18 in Sept. That's how I know how long! :) I have finished several baby quilts and one queen size quilt which now belongs to a friend. It was her wedding present.

I did my first sewing under my mothers guidance as a young girl of about 7 or 8. I have just gotten back into it and got my first sewing machine and am loving it.
I started my first quilt late last year with a workshop day with the fiber arts group my mum, sister and I go to (not a guild just a group of ladies that like to gather together twice a month and try new things and share our love of stitching and our lives). I haven't finished the quilt yet. It is hand pieced and a work in progress but I am working on it. I am hoping to finish it for my daughters first bithday in August.

I learned to sew as a kid, on my mom's old green machine. She did lots of sewing when I was young--made lots of dresses for me, and later made one quilt--for me! I finished my first quilt a few months ago, and have 4 more in progress! Thanks for the chance to win!

Thanks for the chance to win Amy's book. I grew up under quilting frames. I helped my mother tie my first quilt when I was 8 years old (1967), and helped my grandmother hand-quilt whole-cloth tricot quilts when I was a teenager. My wedding quilt was the last she ever made. And when my mother passed away in 1999, My sisters and I found a bag of log cabin blocks and fabrics that she had just started. I brought it home and finished the quilt for my Dad that following Christmas. I was hooked. Then I made my daughters sign up for a block of the month at our local quilt store. That was seven years ago. I haven't actually counted how many quilts I've made, but this is a good motivator just to see. I do know how many UFOs I have yet to make... too many!

I've been sewing obsessively for almost two years. (Before that it was very sporadic.) I've finished a lot of quilts in the last two years. That's my favorite part!

I can't remember exactly when I started sewing. It was before 1980 though. After that I can remember I took a home-ec class in 7th grade and have sewn off an on since then. I stopped for several years and started up pretty regularly with quilts/blankets and such about 3 years ago. I enjoy all the creativity that's on the web now. It's all such an inspiration just like Amy's book. I would love to win in!

Thanks for the interview...I think finishing a quilt is my least favorite part! ha! I'm not very patient when it comes to hand sewing the binding.
I learned to sew many years ago, but I have been sewing consistently for the last three years. I have completed one quilt, one quilt top, and have another quilt top that needs to be sewn together. The last two are fairly large (not baby sized), and I'm a little intimidated to try to do the quilting on my machine....plus I need a new walking foot.
This book looks like it could provide lots of inspiration for the next quilt!

Like her I started sewing in 4-H, I was probably 9 and my mom was one of the leaders. Mom taught me the ins and outs of finishing a project properly and due to that I have won many a red ribbon. I have been in a Quilt guild for 1 year and yes indeed I have completed a quilt or two.
I've been sewing for 25ish years, since I was about 7 and my mom hovered over my shoulder telling me to not run over my fingers (I never did!). And yes, have finished lots of quilts, just not anything really recent due to little kiddos and very limited sewing time.

Wow, how long have I been sewing... a rough guess would be since I was about 11 years old or so. Junior high home-ec was the 'official' start although I'm sure I sewed something with my mom (who sewed EVERYTHING!) before then. I took home-ec from 7th grade all the way through high school. So just over 40 years. Yes, I have finished a quilt, a few of them actually since I started sewing again in 2008.
I've sewn for a long time. Made plenty of quilt tops, but I seem to have a problem finishing them. It's as if the thrill is gone after the top is done....

I have been sewing for around 5 years but really sporadially since I have 3 small children. I have finished 3 crib size quilts and I am still working on a twin 100 prayers quilt for my daughter. I hoped to have it done before April but I don't see that happening anymore. But, it will get done and that is the most important thing. Thankfully she is still in her crib so I have time.
I have been sewing over 40 years ...quilting about 20. In that time I hve completed many quilts ...mostly lap size but a few bed size too.

I've been sewing for about 8 years. I finished 3 quilt (one hand quilted), 1 pillow case, 2 bags, 2 mug rugs, and many quilt tops.
I probably started sewing in school when forced to take the home ec class, and I hated it! I learned how to quilt from my MIL and her mother in 1999 and have been hooked ever since. I would guess I've made more than 100 items since that time. A wide range if items, bags, table runner, place mats, table toppers, baby, twin, full, queen and king quilts and probably more. I gave away seven throws just as Christmas gifts this last year, and probably average 12-15 throws to queen size quilts in a year. thanks for the chance to win the book, I'd love to make some of those quilts.
I've been sewing for *gasp* almost 30 years. I also learned to sew through 4-H and my mom and two older sisters. I've finished a few quilts in the last couple of years since I'm now a SAHM and can sew during naps. :-)
I took a home ec class in 8th grade--1978 (agh! so long ago!)--but was an impatient sewer and never took the time to learn from my mother. I really regret that now, but imagine she is shocked and pleased to see what a patient, devoted quilter I have been since making my first quilt in 2003. I've made many quilts since then, and have dreamed up many more. Seeing Amy's book previews, I'm already imagining the quilts I would make from her patterns.

I learnt to sew in primary school (aged 8 maybe) and always enjoyed it. I even chose the subject in high school but it wasn't until I went to a quilt making class that I had found what I had been looking for. That was in 1998. I have a nice range of finished quilts which we use on our beds.

I took Home Ec in 8th and 9th grade and loved the sewing part,although my teacher was really picky! Then after I was married I got my first sewing machine and started making clothes. I hated the fitting part but loved fabric. In the 80's I decided to sew quilts and love it! I like all the parts of quilting to picking out the pattern and fabric to sewing down the binding.

I've been sewing for nearly 40 years, starting with pink flannel pajamas and developing into a quilter nearly 20 years ago. I learned to sew when I was 5 -- I had a dress with patch pockets that kept falling off and had to be sewn back on. I've never finished a quilt but I have one that just needs binding before it is done.

i have been sewing forever my mom could never keep awy form her machine, she finally tuahgt me at about 7 how to ssew a straight seam for fear if she didn't I'd break her machine!
As for finishing quilts, lots!!!!! My latest completely finihsed one was in the fall for a Wedding. I have several tops completed and one half done.!

I've been sewing for about 2 and a bit years and I've finished several quilts, but only JUST finished one that I'm keeping for myself! I kept giving them all away! I have 3 other quilts on the go - yep, all for me! Now I'm getting greedy!
I've been sewing for about 3 years now, and have finished... 2 quilts sadly. :( But I have finished small little projects that aren't quilts but are quilted... and have started many tops and finished the tops just haven't finished the quilting part. :)

I have been quilting since I was about 26 years old and have made countless quilts and quilty stuff. I even sold a few that were commissioned by friends. My mom and gram taught me to sew and a very early age and we always made all our own clothes, but, when I saw a quilt I got the bug and now make mostly quilts and stuff. I do sometimes make outfits for my granddaughter.
