My new friend Jessica confessed to me one day that she had a brand new sewing machine that she has had for several years and had never used it!! Of course I couldn't let that continue - so I offered to help her learn how to use it. You know my secret plan to take over the world involves converting unsuspecting women into happy-fabric-loving sewers, right? Who needs anti-depressants when you can have a fabric fix? Or the thrill of a finish!?
She wouldn't let me take her picture, but this is what it would have looked like. Except Jessica has better hair. And I don't have wood paneled walls. . . but I digress.

Jess told me at one point that she had the book Bend the Rules Sewing by Amy Karol - which is a delightful book! side note: One of the things I love about it is the section in the beginning explaining basic sewing concepts. Even though I've been sewing for a long time I learned a lot of good things there. It's where I first read about beeswax! (Which does make hand sewing so much better.)
When she came with the book I remembered that the clutch I wanted to make was actually in this book. And then realized it's the one on the cover!!
I love this quick little project so much I have 4 cut out and ready to sew up! You will see them here soon. And I found the cure for my sewer's block - spend some time sewing with a friend, make a mess on your dining room table and JUST. START. CUTTING.

I have that book too. There are so many adorable projects. Your diaper holder came out beautifully. I hope your friend will keep on sewing. That's how it started for me. I went to hang at a friend's house to do a little crafty fun and ended up one addicted mommy.

I totally agree about teaching people to sew...I used to teach a lot of embassy people and love that they're now quilting all over the world.
Hi, Amy! I've made that little bag a lot, as a purse, with one change that might help your diaper clutch too - try boxing the bottom with a little line of stitching across each bottom corner - it gives the bag some space to move inside and a little more shape! I use fleece between the layers for heft and it makes a really cool clutch that you can put into a larger diaper bag (as a mom, you might not want to carry a big purse and a diaper bag!)

Ho! Hum! I want to SEW!!! I want to have something to link up! I've had a bit of nostalgia going through the sewing basket of my recently deceased grandmother. I've had several flashbacks of being in the crochet section of the craft store with her when I was a child.
I love the diaper clutch! I've had a couple of friends ask me to teach them, too, now that I'm finally back on US soil. Thanks for the inspiration. Amy Karol's book is a great resource. Perhaps I'll use that, too, to help my friends.

Your friend did a great job! I have taught 2 women to quilt at this base so far, they have both PCSed... hopefully they will teach one or two eventually and it will spiderweb out.
