sew & tell - I'm baaaa-aaack! with a little quilting to share.

If you are new or need a refresher for Sew & Tell guidelines you can click on the tab above for details on linking up!

Hello there dear friends!  Thought I'd pop in for this week's sew & tell and show you not one, but TWO projects!  Are you impressed?  Well, don't be.  I only had a few lines to finish up on the quilting for the baby quilt.  And I'm kind of digging it.  And the second project isn't mine.  But it's a beauty!
I decided to go for a straight line look that I've seen around.  I stitched about a quarter inch on either side of each seam and I like how the squares got a framed effect doing this.  Plus it's quite a bit easier for a beginner quilter like me than stippling.  I decided not to show you the front until it's really finished.  Oh the suspense!!

I've learned a few things too.  I bought these handy clips (and then found some others too) to use to keep my quilt rolled up while I feed it through the machine.

This is what it looks like, all clipped up!

Second project:  Remember my mom's New York Beauty?  Well, my aunt Mary quilted it!  My mother (my patron saint of saving my butt) is here (to save me from being alone with 2 toddlers and a newborn and an impending move) and brought it with her.  We are having a binding party this week.
I still can't get over the colors in this quilt. And I love the backing.  And the wide stripe she used for the border. And that my Aunt can freehand quilt and make it look like she uses a pattern AND a stitch regulator.  I can't wait to show this to you all finished!!

So onto you guys!!

Oh wait, what?  You wanted to see more pictures of the baby?  Oh.  Okay.  I guess, if you insist.

Can't wait to see what you've been doing this week!

Your turn!

I can barely take my eyes off that little baby long enough to look at your finishes! She is scrumptious! Well done!

She is GORGEOUS!

You do good work ;)

What a great idea! I've bought the round "clips" that's supposed to be for that, but they didn't work so well for me...I think your idea might!

I also have to agree about the other quilt, I heart that color scheme!

Look at you go! Your Love quilt is going to be beautiful. And that New York Beauty makes me want to cry a little bit.

In fact, I did want to see more pictures of that delicious baby! Those cheeks! :)

Colleen said...

Freehand and without a stitch regulator?! I don't quilt, but even I know that that takes talent!

The baby is precious. Gotta love those cheeks.

I'm thinking of you and this upcoming move.

Wow, beautiful, can't wait to see the front of your quilt! I love that kind of straight-line quilting too and I can't BELIEVE your Aunt did that free-motion without a big quilting machine!! That's amazing.

You should never post pictures of your quilts next to your baby. I mean, the quilts are pretty and all, but the baby just outshines everything around her. She's absolutely gorgeous. :-)

Wow. Your baby is so sweet! And your quilt for her is coming out nicely. I love the straight line quilting! Your mom's quilt is beautiful too and your aunt did a great job quilting it. Have fun at your binding party -- I love that part!

She's so sweet! And all the hair is adorable:) Great quilts, too, but the baby steals the show!

Michelle said...

The baby just looks like a little snuggle-bunny. :-) She's going to enjoy the quilt too. I really like the quilting. Although we newbie machine-quilters struggle with the more elaborate quilting patterns, sometimes simple really is best.

Your mom's NYB is gorgeous! Love the colors. It's one of my favorite patterns, and I'm working on one myself.

What a gorgeous baby....

I've never made a quilt before. Yours is beautiful and so is that baby! I hope you're getting some rest :)

Sarah Craig said...

Your double-line quilting looks great - I just used that technique on a disappearing nine-patch and it really added a lot to the quilt, plus it made the backing look special! I like stippling but it takes so much longer that I don't always have time for it. AND your baby is so adorable - don't you just want to hold her all the time? Have fun with her!!
