{amylouwho} sew & tell v3.8 mini quilt party and giveaway!

Hello!!!  It's here! I know, I'm probably more excited than you all are! But still :)

I mailed off this mini quilt early this week for my partner in the Post Sewing Summit Swap.  I'm not going to lie.  I was a little intimidated to sew for my partner (hi, partner!).  I went through all of her favorites on Flickr searching for some inspiration. Knowing she liked bright colors and her favorite being green, I decided on doing something bright with stars.
Then I got cold feet and went in a different direction.  Then I got cold feet again (and by cold feet I mean a little birdie told me my first idea was better) and dove back in with the stars.
Post Summit Swap - mini quilt!
I'm not going to lie to you - I love the way it turned out!
close-ish up

And the quilting on this was really fun to do!  I got to practice some of my skills that Allison taught me in her free motion quilting class.
backing on mini
I chose my favorite Amy Butler polka dots in Lime for the back.  (and said birdie told me this is one of my partner's all time favorite prints! Yea!)  Binding it in the turquoise really helps it pop! (birdie suggested this too - which was a better choice than the green I was going to go with.  Thanks birdie!!)

This quilt was so fun to finish.  It didn't take that long, and I learned how to  piece them in a "random" way so they weren't just all in rows.

figuring out the layout.
It was a little tricky at first, but I just layed them out and figured out where I needed to add more white. I love learning new things!  It was nice to practice on a small project too.

So many of us were inspired by the mini quilt class at The Sewing Summit!  Holly (who designed my new banner and button) started a new Flickr group!  You can head over there to add your quilts, or just look at some eye candy!

So now onto the details of the party + prizes!

Instead of making this a super long post and relisting all the prizes I'll summarize them. But you can go here to read the prize post.
1) Lovely Dana from Old Red Barn Co. is offering a 30$ gift card to her soap shop!
2) Erin, is offering up a flat rate box of swag from the Sewing Summit!
3) Kim is offering up a bundle of awesome Heather Ross scraps!
4) Candy from Candied Fabrics is offering up a set of “quilter’s 8ths” of her own hand-dyed cottons. (check out the birthday sale in her shop!)
5) Nadine from The Material Girls Quilts, is giving away a jelly roll of fabric!

Now, for the fine print.
To enter:
1) Link up a new blog post about your mini quilt.  You can have blogged about the quilt before, I just ask you write a new post for our party, linking back to the fun!  Use a link or button in your post. (And by new post I mean written in the last 2 weeks, for you swappers who may have already blogged ~ just edit to add the button and/or link)
2) Leave a comment on this post.  Tell me one thing on your Christmas list.
**I really want a walking foot and a food processor.  :)**

3) If you don't have a quilt to enter, write up a blog post about sew & tell (button on sidebar) or the mini quilt party (also on sidebar) and let me know in the comments.  Leave a link to your blog post.

That's it! I hope you all have had fun getting ready for today!  I have!  Let's get the party started!
Linky will be open until Sunday night.  Winners announced Monday.  :)

I would love it if you put your name/blog name in the linky so we know who you are! :)

I'm seriously LOL'ing that my quilt also has wonky stars, a lime backing (mine was *almost* polka dots but i went with stripes) and a turquoise binding. Too funny!
My christmas list... a restock of aurifil. I'm running dangerously low!

KristyLou said...

Oh, wow, Love your mini!!!! And I love that you challenged us to make one. I have been wanting to make a mug rug for a LONG time. On my Christmas list is a new camera. Any suggestions?

Oh Amy. I love your mini! It turned out so cute! :o) Your swap partner will be so happy to receive it! What a sweet little birdie to help you along the way! We all need one of those. :o)
Ok, don't laugh but on my Christmas list is a cordless limb trimmer! I live on 10 acres in the country and love to work in my yard. I know. Not diamonds or perfume, but I would be over the moon happy to receive this tool. :o) Another thing is batting ... lots of batting! It's that one thing I never have enough of!
You need to tell us what is on your Christmas list now. :o)
Our anniversary is in February and "Fly A Kite" comes out and I am dying to have it ... so that is my one want for our 20th anniversary. Again .. not diamonds. :o) ha ha ha
Have a great weekend.
love, Trish

Send that little birdie my way -- she comes with good suggestions! For Christmas??? I really need to start thinking about this one....Fabric or wool -- both are sure-fire hits for me! And Amy, thanks for hosting this.

First of all, apparently I'm an idiot and couldn't get an image to load the first time I linked up and it published anyway. Duh. Sorry! So, that is why I did it again . . . not because I think I get two entries. Sorry!!

Second, on my wish list is an new camera lens. :)

I found out about this challenge just yesterday and was able to eek out a Purplicious mini quilt for it! I love the idea of mini quilts - I will definitely be making more - just to work on making my bindings better :)

For Christmas? I just found this pair of boots I must have! El Naturalista N137 - embroidered leather boots. They are amazing, and expensive...

Toni said...

Oh, your mini is awesome and I'm sure your partner will be pleased! I love the stars, especially with the white/lime one in there, too. Fabulous!

As far as my Christmas list, I really want a serger. Or a desk. But a serger would be way more fun!

Christmas list? Haven't thought much about it ... More shiny stainless steel kitchen utensils, maybe ... Thanks for hosting the fun mini-quilt challenge. I'm loving it already!

An accuquilt go baby cutter is on my christmas list!

Amy. This is so amazing!! I LOVE it! Thank you so much. I am laughing because you started over 3 times for sewing something for me? But I have to admit, this one totally nailed it. I love everything - the fabrics, the colors, and yes the little birdie was right, the binding is really perfect. Thank you SO much - it's going up on my wall right now. xoxo

I love your mini! Especially the outlined wonky star.

I don't have anything on my Christmas list. My cousin lost her house to a fire last week, and realizing how quickly you can lose it all has made me really feel like I want to give stuff away for Christmas, rather than get anything!

I am linked up for the contest, too :)

Elizabeth Dackson said...

I love how your mini turned out, Amy!! So cute!! As for my Christmas list, the #1 thing is a big mondo roll of batting. I sure hope Santa has room in his sleigh for that!

Oops! I added my link before reading your post, so my name isn't on it. Sorry. :-/

Your mini quilt is beautiful, Amy! (Of course, all of your work is beautiful!)

Seriously, thank you so much for encouraging me to participate. I really feel that I'm out of my league. I could greatly benefit from having someone sit down beside me and walk me through all of the tips that make one a good quilter. In the meantime, I'm grateful for you ladies who "walk" me through it on your blogs.

This is so much fun! Thank you, Amy!

BTW I want a SIZZIX cutter for Christmas

Jessica said...

I'd like some AB Lark for Christmas. And Lotta's Echo... and lots of other fabric too. Question: Can we get two entries by linking up two posts about two different minis? Or would you rather everyone do just one?

Heather said...

I didn't think I'd actually make it this week, but here I am! Yay! I love, love, love the mini-challenge idea, and sure wish I'd had more time to play with ideas, but I'm still pretty happy with how mine turned out. Thanks for the great party, Amy! And by the way, your mini is just... yummy. Your swap partner will LOVE it!

One Christmas gift I'd love is a rotating cutting mat. Every time I have to square up blocks or HST units, I wish I had one, but it seems like a luxury I really don't need. Sounds like a perfect gift to me. lol Think my family has been "hearing" my hints? :o)

Hi! I just wondered if we have to have a blog to enter this contest. I'm working on a tiny paper pieced quilt (just learning and love it) and also have my first little applique quilt 19" X 19" finished.
Ah well, even if I'm not eligible, my wish for Christmas is to see my oldest grandson. We raised him and his younger brother. He joined the Air Force in May of this year and I haven't seen him since he left for Basic Training. He is now stationed at Andrews AFB Maryland and is hoping to take at least a few days leave to come home for a visit. That is at the very top of my Christmas list...actually, the only other thing on my list is to have the family gathered together for the day. Hugs...
**Of course, fabric is always nice *wink*, LOL
