***Giveaway Closed - Winner to be announced later today!!***
My daughter doesn't like to wear pants. Well, it's not that exactly. She just like skirts and dresses better! But what to do for the cold weather? My friend and I had the same idea - CORDUROY with leggings! Said friend gave me some awesome hand-me-down leggings and I got some super soft corduroy 1/2 off!
I had plans to make these back in October but then a certain dress took over my life. But I got them cut out and finished in the last couple of weeks. Even in the midst of the attempted pink-eye coup of my home. I won't go into it. . . You really don't want to know that all three of my kids have had it, not at the same time, and it's going on a month of this. . . well, okay, maybe you did want to know!
So back to the skirts. Everyone needs a black skirt for winter! This one is just like her red and pink modified twirly skirt. I just made it a tad bit longer.
Then I wanted to make a 3 tiered one like my friend had. So she gave me the measurements from this pattern for the strips. It's so easy I can't even tell you - side seams, gather, sew together, hem, casing, elastic, done!
I actually made two brown skirts. One the right way, and then this one.
Which for a mistake turned out pretty cute! I transposed some numbers when writing down the measurements and ended up cutting one panel too small. And then I was running out of fabric - so I added that 4th ruffle on the bottom for length. I really like it! I took about a 3" X width of fabric (WOF) piece and folded it in half and just used that as the hem. Here, let me show you:
and let me tell you I love the wrong side of a serger finished garment! I almost want her to wear this inside out! Okay, maybe I wouldn't go that far. How I adore that machine!!
I also top-stitched the seam allowances down and that gives it a nice finished look. Plus it keeps those seams where they belong!
I'm not quite done with this one. It's what the pattern calls for and what the other brown one looks like. So you can see how it looks without being top-stitched. Things just aren't laying down as well.
And do you want to see what this would look like if I DIDN'T have my serger?
Oh the HORROR.
I need to get the right color thread so I can finish this one! It's such a pretty color, I'm wishing I had bought enough to make a matching skirt for me. After all, it's the winter version of my favorite blue.
Since I finished these late at night, I haven't gotten any model shots, yet. I'll post those soon. I know it's more fun to see the clothes on the girl. I'm toying with the idea of scaling the pattern down and making babylouwho some matching ones too!

I think it would have to be Parisvile - I am besotted! Love your cute skirts!
This is my first time linking up here! I have been admiring your blog (through Nicole) for a long time, and thought I'd finally join in on the fun!
I love the Soul Blossoms. How could I not?!
I love your cordoroy skirts! and they twirl! I would love some of the new Amy Butler or some Anna Marie Horner.
I'm finding that I'm drawn to Parisville more than I thought I would be! So that's probably what I would choose - unless she gets in some Sherbet Pips!
Love your corduroy skirts, by the way - so cute!!!
December is a great month for Amys to have birthdays. I have a big one coming up. Not too sure how I feel about turning a half century next week. Hmmm...
If I were to win, I would choose Amy Butler's fabric.
I'm partial to Amy....
I have never had any Amy Butler. I would really like some.
Awesome skirts! And great fabric for a giveaway! Thanks.
Ok, not such a skirt in sight at our house! LOL But I remember being a little sprout who loved twirley skirts! How sweet yours are!
Thank you to you and Randi for the chance to win. I would pick one of her custom coordinated bundles! Man, that woman can pick colors and fabrics from different lines and make me want to grab a spoon and eat them!
The skirts are fabulous! :o)
I'm so happy I can participate in Sew and Tell this week. It's really been much too long. I love the Pink Paris fabrics. They are lovely! :o)
Any of the choice would make a great giveaway. And if you choose me, I could celebrate not only Christmas but my birthday as well. I'm a December baby too! :o)
Happy Sewing!
I've been meaning to make a corduroy skirt, I saw they had the fall prints on sale at Joann's for 60% off, so I guess I'll have to go back! I love how yours turned out. The blue one is my favorite!!!
Wow, thanks for the generous giveaway! You're the best!!! I would definitely get the new Amy Butler fabrics!!!
It would be hard to choose as it's a toss up between Parisville & Innocent Crush! Perhaps I would get some of both :) I love that shop!
Ohhhh, I am crushing on some Innocent Crush! I would gobble some up with the GC. Thanks for the giveaway! Hope my lucky streak continues this week :-)
Love your skirts!
I love the Tailor Made line! It is so cute!

Hi, Amy! I'm loving the Parisville at Fresh Squeezed. She has so many beautiful options though.
I'm bummed that I don't have a Sew & Tell item this week. I'm taking a break for a bit. We've had a lot of company, and I've spent my extra time doing a lot of cooking/baking, which is really my first creative love. I log in many, many hours in the kitchen, and my children join me. I call them "My Staff". :-)
Have a wonderful Christmas!
I would really like to win this giveaway. I can't decide what I would get! Thanks for the giveaway. :)
i'd go straight for the michael miller ta dot line... oh yes. lime, tangerine, aqua, candy , ocean. my sew & tell are a bright bunch of zipper pouches for teacher gifts... but no linky.
That's a hard decision. I would narrow down my choices to the "6 one-half yard pieces from the Dream On Collection, Urban Chiks for Moda Fabrics" or maybe make my own bundle with the robert kaufman fabrics (which I LOVE).
thanks for the giveaway! I would love to get my hands on some of that parisville...
supe cute skirts! Amy Butler's new line is to.die.for! I would love to try it out!
I dont think my last comment worked so I will try again!
I would love to win the soul blossoms line!!!
But I do love the new tula pink line too!!
Oboed@aol.com
Browsed through the shop and I would probably get several different fat quarter bundles...one of this, one of that...so much to choose from!
Thanks for a chance to win.
Wow! What a great giveaway! Choosing what to get would be hard, but I am so in love with Tula Pinks Parisville that I would definitely pick some!
Your skirts are just great, and thanks for pointing out the differences with the seams and finishing. It does make a big difference.
Great giveaway, too! I would get Soul Blossoms! No doubt about it!
Such cute skirts! Maybe I'll have to make Emily some once my sewing machine and I are on speaking terms again.
Fabrics I'd love - um, just about all of them? Probably Laurie Wisbrun's Urban Circus for some as-yet-unknown baby quilt. Or I might wait to see if she gets Kate Spain's Central Park in. 'Cause that looks *awesome*
Love the skirts! I would get the Punctuation fat quarter set. I love this fabric.
I would stock up on couple of those lovely fat quarter bundles. Thanks for a perfect giveaway!!
i think the Kokka Carnival line would come to sit in my stash should i be the winner. happy holidays to you and yours!
Randi is so nice and has such a great shop. I do believe a fat quarter bundle of Soule Blossoms would hop into my cart!
I want a brown skirt for myself! I don't know if I'm just behind the times... but I'm majorly crushing on all of the Ta Dot fabrics and would love to build up my stash of those!
Love your skirts... and wish I had a serger! Thanks for the giveaway.... Amy Butler Soul Blossoms it would be if I won.
azbelle3@yahoo.com
I have some gorgeous blue corduroy that's just waiting to become a jumper for my daughter. And you're right about the tiered skirt. I've made about 3 just like that and basically just invented the pattern as I went along. Super easy.
I didn't finish anything this week. Bummers.
But I did browse the shop and I would have to decided between some things from Innocent Crush or some things by Circa 50.
I would love the new Amy Butler please!
What wouldn't I want from Randi's shop:) I really love the Breakfast from Tiffany fabric line. Thanks for the give away!
Kimberly
Oh, those strawberry fields from Meadowsweet 2 have been on my wishlist for a couple months now...
Cute skirts! I have some printed corduroy that would look cute in that pattern.
If I were to win the gift certificate, I'd be torn between taking advantage of the full yard bundle in fun graphics like Cars, Tree Stripes, Carnival, and Sewing Notions; and an Oliver + S pattern for the Music Box Jumper; and a bundle of Delilah Paisley coordinates.
Hi! I just came over from Randi's and I'm so glad I did! I've tried to add a link but I'm not sure if it worked as I've never done one before! I would love, love love some Amy Butler! It looks gorgeous. Glad I found your blog...I'll be back! Lots of love, Amanda xxx
Love your skirts.
If I win - I think it would have to be some tufted tweets! Thanks!
I'd by Delilah. Love all the roses!
I LOVE your skirts, they are so pretty!
if I were to win, I would have to click on the bundles page, close my eyes and just point to one, everything in her shop is great!
Thanks for the chance!
Great idea to keep warm -- cute corduroy skirts! Very cute!
I do love the Soul Blossoms. Very nice giveaway!
Amy, the skirts look great! I got a serger over the summer and am soooo glad! It makes sewing for my daughter a million times better. I hate those exposed raw edges but my serger makes it all better :)
Congrats on 600 followers and thanks for sharing with us! (I would get some Dream On & Parisville if I win!)
Definitely Soul Blossoms! Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!
I've got a brown corduroy skirt that I pretty much live in in the winter! Absolutely perfect!
I'm itching to make a skirt from some Origins fabric, so I'd probably start there. Unless my husband has already bought it for me for Christmas, that is. I've been leaving some not-too-subtle hints :-).
Love the skirts! I have a daughter that loves to wear dressings in the snow, too. Leggings are a great invention.
I would pick something from the Delilah Collection, Tanya Whelan for Free Spirit Fabrics.
Thank you for the giveaway!
I'm a sucker for Amy Butler...
I'd probaly pick a selection of the Ta Dot fabrics, I just love them and maybe a bit of the new Amy Butler fabric too, it looks so pretty!
She has such a great selection, I really love the "fabric bundle--5 one-half yard pieces (2 1/2 yards total) from the Bliss Collection, Bonnie and Camille for Moda Fabrics"
My granddaughters love corduroy skirts, too! And like you, I love my serger-just bought it about 3 months ago!
I'd probably go with Parisville!
The skirts turned out beautiful! Oh, and I love all the pictures. Does this surprise you. I have to say that it's about time that I get some Amy Butler fabric--so when I win that is what I would get. LOL
Wow! I would get some yardage of Parisville Collection, Tulla Pink, if I do not find Amy's new collection...
Please call me in!
Flávia
Ohhhh, for sure I would get Soul Blossoms!! I can't believe I haven't bought any yet!! I love the skirts you made, I actually need one for myself. My daughter is out of the skirt stage! :(
Oooh, so hard to pick! She has so many lines that I can't get at the lqs. I think I'm torn between Parisville and the new Amy Butler. There are so many other great things though, too!
I love the new Amy Butler fabric and I think I might be getting a niece in the next several months. Wouldn't a quilt and a car seat blanket be the thing?! Come on! Plus, I haven't won anything this year and that was one of my goals. Make it happen, will ya?
Great giveaway! I'd pick the Bliss by Moda fabric bundle. Yum!
Ooh, I love a giveaway! I'd pick something purple to make my Mom a quilt - maybe Parisville in Mist??
I love Randi' shop! Did you see the Christmas fabric sale she has going on? I am waiting for my package of goodness to arive any day. If I were lucky enough to win, I would invest in more Delilah since I only ordered two prints this week.

The skirts are adorable - wish I had a little girl to sew for, wait a minute - I have two nieces - I may be whipping up some cute skirts this weekend.
I don't have any photos of my projects to blog and link up today, but I love that shop! It would be tough to choose - but I'm thinking earthy green bundle like the Parisville one, or the Origins by Basic Grey. If I had $ leftover I'd pick up a yard of one of the Japanese prints from Kokka, like Through the Looking Glass.
These are perfect dresses. You are wonderful at making clothes.
She is awesome. Too funny. I just bought some lovely Christmas fabric from her this morning!! Go look and see what she has.

Those skirts are too cute! My mum took my serger for about a month and fixed it then taught me how to use it over Thanksgiving. I made an apron in half the time and it looks really good and professional, no frays ravels or threads for me! After Christmas I can post all the serger sewing I've been doing!
-Lauren
