I really am! It comes into play especially when I'm working with a quilt layout that is supposed to be scrappy and random. It's part of the reason it's good for me to work with these 3 block sets. I think if I had to lay out every single square and decide where they all go it would never get anything finished!
So the other morning I decided to let my kids
walk all over and mess up help me lay out my quilt top. Partly because I'm too tired at the end of the day to do it when they are sleeping - plus it's easier for them to move around on the floor than me. (Did I mention we're just two weeks away from d-day?)
That being said... they did pretty well, my 2 year old got a little bored with it but girly-girl got into it. She was a little too eager, but actually was quite helpful.
The only problem is that I feel like there might be some spots where the same fabrics/colors are a little too clustered together.
What do you think?
Don't mind the messed up corner - I think I'm leaving that one alone. I think you can see who the little culprit is!

I think it looks lovely; I can't see any fabrics that look grouped together, maybe that's just me though! hehe :)
It looks fine - good and random! Remember random does not mean equally spread out...you WILL have some clusters, if not, it's not RANDOM! ;-)
Sew that baby together and git 'er done!
I have the same issues as you...makes my head spin :)
I think think the way it is laid out looks lovely. This kids did a great job. If it were me I might switch out 1 or 2 of the darker squares to the bottom?
My experience has been that when you solve one "problem," you create another, and you could keep going and going....
So I would sew it together as is and call it great!
honestly, it looks JUST fine as is! i think it's random and there are no 'bunched' up colors jumping out.
I like it. You should sew it up! You might be more frustrated as you try to change it up more. And it looks great right now.
it looks good. i say leave it and go for it. i have my daughter do this for me regularly because i know i would spend way too much time on it than she would....and then i feel bad about changing it....so job finished.
I am EXACTLY the same way. I looked at it for a long time with my critical eye and I think the other commenters are right - just sew it together! It's super cute; good job scrapping it!
I think it looks fabulous!
All the very deep colours are evenly spaced, so it looks very well balanced to me.
I agree with everyone -- it looks fabulous, completely random, and ready to sew together! Plus, it has the added bonus that your kids helped you put it together.
I really like it! You probably could move a things around but you would just end up going in circles :) Sew it together and be done - before she comes, maybe...
I see two trouble spots...
to the right you have two of the same green/blue polka dot blocks in a line separated by only 1 block
and the other is over on the left you have 2 lime/grey dots touching eachother at a corner...
my suggestion would be to swap one of each trouble spot to the other side and otherwise you're good to go!
Looks great!
you're brave doing it while you're kiddos are awake :)
I think it looks great. I see what you mean, but only after you said something.
I see only the two lime dots next to each other.
I know what you mean when it comes to random and scrappy! Again, it looks ready to piece.
I think it's great. Random means random and sometimes fabrics end up near each other. If I'm being honest I'd say that the dark blue about 2/3 of the way down just left of center needs to move to the right about 4 or 5 squares. Other than that - perfect. Even with that - it's really great! These are my favorite kind of quilts - simple and scrappy. Love it.
Move one of the darker purpley ones from the top right to the bottom center. Those three rows on the bottom in the middle need one more dark piece to ground it out. And othre than the two lime dots on the left hand side, I think it's great! Very pretty!
SEW AWAY!!
Wow can't believe only two weeks until your due date! Your love quilt layout looks great!!!
Looks great to me! Unless quilts are hung on a wall, we rarely see the whole thing all spread out. But we still agonize over placement of each piece, don't we?
:)
I think you have some wonderful helpers....and it looks great!
It's looking great!! 2 weeks! How exciting! Let the countdown begin!!
I think it looks great! I'm seriously impressed that so much of it remained intact with two little ones running around. My daughter wouldn't be able to resist the temptation!!! Can't wait to see this quilt when it's done. It's going to be fabulous!
Oh and . . . only two weeks?!?! Wow! Exciting!
I think that it is a keeper!!! Great helpers!! Tell them two thumbs up, but only because I don't have any more thumbs!!!
Blessings,
KT
in my rather inexpert opinion, it looks great.
I like what your kids have done! I can't believe you've only got two weeks left! AHHHHH!
P.S. I like the new layout!
It looks great. Having your kids help out will be a good story to tell the baby.
i think it looks great and the messed up corner is adorable! when i lay out my quilts i try to just leave it when i get to the frustrating point where i try to reach perfection. i ain't gonna happen and it always looks great anyway!
personally i really like the layout here!
It looks great and I love your method! I bet you're glad for only two more weeks:)
I think it looks fine! I guess we always look much more critical to our projects than others. I did catch up on the sew and tell link and even realized that the button had disappeared from my sidebar!?!?
Relaaaaaaax!
It's gorgeous.
I am totally the same way. I like to 'control' my random and scrappy too and when I look at others' work, I wish my random came out looking as nice as theirs does. I'm having the same problem with a random scrappy quilt too right now, so maybe I'll do as you did and post mine for opinions. My opinion on your quilt is that it really came out very lovely and random and scrappy and doesn't need changing a bit. You did a really nice job!
For what it is worth, I think that the quilt is all that much more special since the kids helped you place the squares. Even if it is not "perfect" in your eyes, it will ALWAYS be the quilt that they helped with and therefore absolutely "one-of-a-kind" and you will treasure it forever.
We "control freaks" must learn to let go as often as possible. What better way than to have a quilt that the kids were a big part of.....
All the best to you!

Your kids did a great job! It's perfect. :-)
what the??? It looks fabulous Amy! oh my gosh! Now you're making me want to buy the whole love line instead of just the sunspots. Darn it!
It actually looks pretty balanced to me. The dots in that line sure do break it up.
