She sent out all the little pieces already cut out, with a link to these instructions for a Grandmother's Fan block, all we had to do was sew them together.
Sewing the little strips wasn't too bad, especially since I decided to try out some chain-stitching (or is it chain piecing?). But working those curved seams required lots of pins and some stretching and giving.
I chain-stitched while I pieced all four of these blocks. I'd had people suggest it to me before, but I didn't realize just how handy it was. It saves time and thread since you just feed the next section to be sewn right after you finish one, without having to clip a thread!

Amy, those blocks turned out great. I can see why you would be intimidated - curved piecing!! Looks complicated. You did a great job. Thanks for showing your steps along the way. I did not get much accomplished this week. We did not have snow days, but my kids were out of school for Winter Break. That usually means a ski trip, but not this time because of soccer. The kids and I have been taking advantage of the down time by being lazy. Works for me. Enjoy your weekend.

Love the fans. They are soo cheerful and bright. Much needed in the winter! I did a lot of chain piecing myself. Discovered dust-bunnies living behind my sewing desk!! Gues I have to add vaccuuming to today's doo-doo list!

Oh amy, you are a brave soul! I have tried curved piecing and it definitely is challenging! I really love all those color combinations - it should turn out very pretty!

Both quilts are beautiful. Orange and pink are wonderful together. Curves intimidate me. But you chain pieced these too! Wow! They look great.

those are very pretty blocks! I stepped out of my comfort zone with some wild Valentine's fabri and threw togetehr a couple table toppers. I'll quilt them tomorrow while tonight I'll finish binding my airplain quilt. So, should be a good show-off weekend!
