Since one of the chairs is featured on my new header I thought I'd show you the whole thing!
So here is the before.
Not bad - It's actually cute yellow. But the vinyl on the seats was old and the paint was beyond cleaning in some spots. I bought this the first year we were married in a charity shop in Palm Springs. I was so excited to have a table and chairs for our little patio at the time. But after several years of intermittent use, I was contemplating passing it on to someone else.
And then, the light bulb moment.
I had seen all sorts of things people were painting with spray paint and I thought, "Huh, I could do that. It could only look better and if I don't like it, I'll paint it again!"
So here you go!
Are you shocked it's aqua blue? And I just love the curly Q design on the table and seat backs. Oh la la! C'est tres French!
The seats needed some pizazz too. I loved this Pineapple Brocade from Heather Bailey's Pop Garden line. SO cute. I took off the
I love these chairs so much they are often inside as extra seating in the kitchen, at the computer desk, or my sewing table. If we didn't have so many darn mosquitos we might actually sit outside and use the table more often in the summer! I don't think I could part with it now.
A note about recovering the chair seats. I bought the vinyl off the big roll at Joann's. I think it's typically used for table coverings. I didn't buy heavy enough vinyl the first time and it got easily ripped. So I ended up going back and buying a much heavier gauge vinyl and haven't had any problems since.
I guess if you used outdoor fabric to begin with you wouldn't have to use the vinyl. But how could I have found anything this adorable in the waterproof section??

Thanks everyone for your enthusiastic participation in Sew & Tell! I'm really happy that so many of you find it motivating and fun to share and see what everyone is working on! It's totally helping me stay on the ball too.
I had an idea about Sew & Tell. How would everyone feel about moving it to Mondays after the first of the year? I was thinking it might make more sense so that you all can have the weekend to work on your projects that you might want to share. I'm happy to keep it on Friday if that's the majority - just wondered if anyone had an strong opinions either way.
Hope you had a great weekend and are enjoying this holiday season!

So dang cute! Great idea with the vinyl over the fabric. And you know I just love the aqua.
Either Friday or Monday is okay, but I kind of like Friday because it gives you the weekend to look at all the finishes!
Your patio set looks fantastic!
very cute RE-DO! friday or monday...whatever you say. :)
Very very cute! I love what you did to the whole set!
adorable. I love the chairs.
I am ok either way with Sew N Tell. I need to get on the ball and join in with you, whichever day you do it! This week, I will!
Your chair rocks. Love the color, and especially the seat. As for Show and Tell, I vote for Monday. How great would it be to start off the week looking at great inspiration? It always motivates me to get sewing on my own stuff.
OM gosh that is the cutest table and chairs.....you are so amazing girly!!!! i just wish you were closer so that you can teach me all these wonderful talents you have!!!!
Gorgeous job with the table and chairs. Love it! Monday might be better for me as I had 2 weekends away recently which mean't I couldn't I couldn't link up. Hopefully this week I'll be back into it.
Fabulous makeover! Either days work for me; as you say, having the weekend to finish would be great - on the other hand, having the weekend to look at the posts works well too:-)
Very very cute!
Love the patio setting. Great job! Personally I prefer Fridays. One of the best parts of my Saturday morning is having a cup of tea after breakfast and checking out all the finishes. I live in Australia hence the perfect timing for my breakfast ritual. It also gives me more time on Saturday to get my post together. But whichever way you go I will still participate. Thanks for hosting such a wonderful event.
The chair looks great - I love that fabric, too, and it goes so well with the turquoise! I hear you about the mosquitoes - oh, for a screened-in porch! As for Sew-n-Tell, right now I am rooting for Mondays, since I had nothing to show on Friday but over the weekend had a KILLER finish that I can't wait to post about! But seriously, I don' think it really matters to me - it's the fact of having a weekly goal that keeps me on track, and the specific day matters less.
I love the makeover. The fabric is so cute and looks great with the new paint job.
I adore the "shocking" aqua! It came out beautifully!
Spray paint saves the day! That's a great redo and the clear vinyl is something I wouldn't have thought of.
Either day is fine with me:)
spray paint is amazing!!! your chairs look beautiful. i especially love the fabric you used on the seats. i am pretty flexible about what day you do sew and tell...but i agree with Anne that having the weekend to look through everything is nice...but weekend would be good to work on projects too....see i think i am ok either way.
Isn't it amazing what a little paint and new fabric can do! I love it...
Actually, I, too, prefer Friday cause it gives me all week-end to check out what everyone has done! Mondays are usually hectic!
Wow, that is fantastic! I would never have been able to foresee how great that color would look. I'm way too safe most of the time. You have such a great eye for this!
wow, this is a fantastic makeover. I really really LOVE the colour your chose, it is so "happy"!!! Can something be happy? 'cause it really is a happy little set!! :-)
Super cute! I want an aqua living room. . . I need help though :)
I vote Monday!
I Love the table. So cute. I love the Sew & tell! It doesn't matter what day it is on. I think Mondays would be great.
wow! such a gorgeous transformation! these chairs are so beautiful with your new fabric covered seats!!
Love it!
As for Sew & Tell on Mondays - since I haven't finished anything in months - it hardly matters!
The patio set looks very beautiful - tres chic, hopefully I got the French right. Either day would work for me, because I know I'm going to be running behind and doing it on the wrong day anyway!
What a great makeover! The colors you pick are perfect.
